John and Elizabeth Holmes Wilson originally owned optical practices in Galloway for 10 years prior to moving to Melrose in the Scottish Borders in 1990. John is an ophthalmic optician and contact lens specialist and Elizabeth, originally a geographer and chartered town planner, is the practice manager. Hence the reason for their interest in weather instruments, compasses, pedometers, etc. and all things optical.
Their present practice is the largest single practicioner practice in the south of Scotland, and they specialise in high quality frames such as Calvin Klein, Silhouette and Charmant as well as contact lens and low visual aid work. They have a long serving staff of six - two receptionists, three nurses and a technician, and they run their own glazing workshop.
They selected Melrose for it's central location and proximity to the Borders General Hospital, but in truth the beauty of the town and the high quality and variety of the individual businesses were just as important.
Melrose is a place to come and visit, stay a while and browse but if you can't come and see the full rang offered get a taste of it in the next few pages. If what you want is not there contact Elizabeth, Alison, Judi, Mary, Rena or Lesley - they're there to help!
