Pocket AltimeterMeasuring 55mm diameter the concentric scales show height in metres and barometric pressure in hPA (formerly known as millibars to the uninitiated). The barometer is set for sea level but can be adjusted with care using the calibration screw.
The instrument is made in Japan and is ideal for climbers, skydivers, glider pilots and the like. A lanyard and carrying case is supplied and the movement is shock resistant which is fortunate when we hear what treatment has been given to these instruments - without adverse effect on their performance.
Our Tip:
We have just had a client return from trekking in the Himalayas who reported very favourably on the performance of this instrument. We also have a client who is intent on "bagging" Munros - he likes to check that the Ordnance Survey have got the heights right! On a more serious note he uses the barometer to predict weather conditions to see whether or not it is wise to proceed with a climb. |
